COURSE OUTLINE – DRAMA 2017-2018
Competencies :
Focus of Study:
Grade 7:
- The building blocks of drama; what is an entrance-exit-scene. How do we put scenes together to create skits and plays.
- Study of Fairy Tales, Myths and Urban Legends. What are the elements of these types of literature and how do they translate into plays and skits.

Homework:
All homework must be completed on the assigned date and handed in at the beginning of class. All work MUST be completed in either blue or black ink, or typewritten.
Late Assignments:
All homework is due either on or before their due date. Late assignment will have 1 mark deducted per day, up to a maximum of one week, at which point I will no longer accept the assignment and the student will receive a 0. Please be aware that, any assignment where I have given more than 2 weeks to complete (ex: Book Report) MUST be handed in on its due date. There will be no extensions, and late submissions will NOT be accepted. Should a student not have their assignment ready on the due date, they will receive an automatic 0.
Bonus marks:
Just as late assignments receive a deduction of marks, so early submissions will receive a bonus mark – 1 per day early, up to a maximum of 1 week (7 bonus marks).
Participation:
Drama is a participatory class – the more you put into it, the more you will get out of it. Students are marked daily on their participation in class (5 marks). These participation marks are worth 25% of the students term mark, each term.
Competencies :
- Creates and performs Dramatic works – 70%
- Consists primarily of the students performance of Drama skits and the creation and performance of at least 1 major project each term.
- Appreciates Dramatic Works – 30%
- Consists primarily of the students written work (reviews, character analyses, tests, etc.

- Music Videos – how are they created – creating our own
- Monologues, Dialogues and group scenes – what are they and how do we perform them. Exploring both Shakespearean and modern plays.
Grade 9:
- What is a dramatic genre – how do we identify.
- What are the elements of various genres.
- Creating our own.
- One Acts – what are they
- Creation and production of student written one act plays.
Grade 11:
- What are the difference between stage and screen plays
- What are the differences in creating stage vs. screen plays
- Creation and production of student written screenplays.
